Here at the Foundation, we are so lucky to have incredible interns. This summer, we have added a new intern to our team! Now that she has been here for a few weeks, we are excited to introduce her and highlight some of her goals and passions.
Tell us about yourself!
My name is Gracie Elmer, and I have lived in Indiana my entire life. Currently, I attend Butler University, and I am majoring in English and minoring in Spanish. In terms of hobbies, I love to read, write, and study (I like the third less than the others). I am also a movie fanatic and enjoy all kinds of movies except for horror. I have about four years of journalism experience as a result of writing for school newspapers during high school and college. Following Butler, I am hoping to attend graduate school.
Why did you decide to join the Pass the Torch team?
I decided to join the Pass the Torch team because I wanted a fresh sense of purpose aside from what I do in my academics. I also want to connect with people and acquire professional work experience. However, I’ve known since the beginning of college that I want to help people. I wanted to join Pass the Torch to accomplish this goal.
How has mentorship impacted you, personally and professionally?
Mentorship has had a very strong impact on me because it has provided me with some very positive relationships. Through the mentors I’ve had, I’ve gained encouragement, reassurance, and guidance. The mentors I’ve had s to me as an equal, which has inspired me to keep moving forward with my goals. They have treated me like a competent intellectual and that has given me confidence. My mentors’ support has encouraged me to pursue my interests and talents.
What do you hope to achieve during your time at the Foundation?
During my time at the Foundation, I hope to learn more about myself through mentoring. I am hoping for a positive experience that will give me more reassurance about my writing skills. I want to connect with people and improve my interpersonal skills. While working at the Foundation, I hope that I can learn from other people, as well as learn from my experiences working as a member of the Communications Team. After my internship has concluded, I am hoping that I might see myself in a new way. I am also hoping to gain more confidence and work experience as a result of my time at the Foundation.
