Project Grow Begins for 2016-2017 School Year!

Our Project Grow female college mentoring program has begun for the 2016-2017 school year. With the generous partnership and support of USA Funds, the Pass the Torch for Women Foundation has been able to provide a second round of students with a year-long initiative to help them grow both personally and professionally through mentoring opportunities and curriculum-based programming.

This past week, we have held our first module class, “Mentoring Fundamentals”, to the following institutions: Ivy Tech Indianapolis, Marian University, IUPUI, University of Indianapolis, and Ivy Tech Fort Wayne. The time was spent diving into goals, reflecting on competencies, and inspiring courage in the students.

“This program is undoubtedly influential for these students,” Samantha Burke, National Program Director and module class facilitator, states. “When we implemented the program last year, our findings showed positive  growth in the areas of self-efficacy, self-esteem, confidence, and leadership. I see the same impact taking place this year, as these young women are incredibly passionate about leveraging their skills to succeed and acting as sponges to continue to expand skills by working with our mentor database.”

This school year, the Foundation has added classes on financial fitness, confidence building, and resume building. The group of women have also increased, both in numbers and geographically.

“I am incredibly impressed with our group of 135 students, as I can confidently say that these women are the ones who are going to use their experiences and passions to be future leaders and mentors. It is an honor to play a small role in their journey, “ says Burke.

Pass the Torch for Women Foundation recently rebranded back in March on International Women’s Day. Their vision is a world where all women are equitably represented at all levels of business and government. With the large group of female college students beginning the program, the Foundation is looking for individuals interested in providing an hour a month to inspire and mentor.
