Project Grow: First Class a Success!

As you may have heard, USA Funds and Mentoring Women’s Network have partnered together to implement a mentoring program for local college students from Ivy Tech and Marian University. The year-long initiative will have students take part in various classes: “Fundamentals in Mentoring”, “Propelling Your Career with Mentors and Sponsors”, “Art of Negotiation”, and “Networking with Intention”. In between each module, students are encouraged to use the online software platform to get matched with up to four mentors across the nation. Imagine the impact this will have for the women who are striving toward success while in the collegiate environment!

This past Monday, September 28th, Ivy Tech students had their first class, “Fundamentals in Mentoring”. Samantha Lawson, our Program Director, facilitated the group and walked away inspired.

“It was not that long ago that I was in their seats and studying at University and I look back and wish I had this kind of access to mentors who have experience and expertise in the industry in which I was pursuing,” Lawson states. “I went into that room to facilitate the class and you would not believe how inspired I was when I walked away. These women have been through obstacles, overcome them, and are now investing in themselves to leverage their skills to succeed and thrive. They are the ones who are going to make a difference in this world and it is an honor to play a small role in that journey.”

The two-hour class took place at Ivy Tech college, with about fifty students participating. The time was spent diving into goals, reflecting on competencies, and inspiring courage in the students. It was a time to look within and start feeling comfortable with what they have to bring to the table and all the wonderful outcomes that come about when surrounding yourself with successful, positive people.

Marian University will have their first class on October 27th. Stay tuned for more updates!
