Mentoring Women’s Network Foundation’s Inaugural Event Champions Growing Women Business Leaders
June 9, 2015 – Indianapolis, IN – Locally-based national not-for-profit, Mentoring Women’s Network Foundation, is taking action on the issue of the lack of women in the upper echelons of the world’s top businesses. On August 8, 2015 the organization will hold its inaugural Pass the Torch for Women Relay Event in Downtown Indianapolis. The purpose of the event is to raise awareness of the power of mentoring relationships in furthering women’s careers, and to garner the resources to offer formal mentoring services to underserved populations.
The recent discussions surrounding gender inequality in the workplace have led many businesses to realize the need for diversity at all employee levels. Formal mentoring programs are a cost-effective and proven method to open opportunities for women’s career growth. However, access to these programs can be limited by resources, life transitions, or experience. Mentoring Women’s Network Foundation aims to eliminate those barriers by offering free mentoring services to all who seek them.
The Pass the Torch for Women Relay Event will be held on Saturday, August 8th, 2015 at the Michael A. Carroll Track on the IUPUI campus in downtown Indianapolis. Local organizations, businesses and individuals will create teams of five to complete a relay marathon around the track. Ongoing activities will be available throughout the morning promising fun for the “relayers” and their fans. A cool-down party at The Platform will include refreshments and the honoring of influential women in the community with the Pass the Torch for Women Lifetime Achievement Award. The event is being chaired by Patty Prosser, Managing Director of OI Partners.
The event is presented by USA Funds, and proceeds from team fundraising efforts will support the Mentoring Women’s Network Foundation’s scholarship programs. Five scholarships have been created to further the Foundation’s mission to provide mentoring services to the women who need them most: women in transition, single mothers, women in underserved populations, college students and women entrepreneurs.
